Doesn't matter as long as they are competent. I am military and see whoever is available. The best pap I have ever had was by a male resident-fast and extremely gentle.

Re: Do You Prefer A Male Or Female OB?

I think overall I have liked my male obs best but I have had some really great females too. I don't really care about the gender. I try to look closely at credentials and see if we click at the first apt. If we don't I wont go back. My first preg I saw at least 4 obs maybe more before I picked one.

In general, female. There is a male OB (as well as a female OB + two midwives) at the practice I see now, and he was very nice and I was comfortable with him. The two I have seen previously were the kind that make you want a female OB though. They were rough and very impersonal.

I chose male because I think they are more compassionate, surprisingly. Every woman that I've had has been rude and more indifferent when I share my fears or struggles with the pregnancy. I LOVE my OB doc! He really cares for people and listens. Maybe I just have a good doctor.

Generally female, because I tend to use comparison to explain feelings or pain issues. And I can get across something like, "You know that cramping you get just before your period, that's not as intense as other cramping?" and have them be able to relate most times. If that made sense.

I have had both with DD male with DS Female and with both MC male. I have had great care with both but do my research and have been blessed with great care all times.

I prefer a woman that's younger and has kids. I've had three female OBs and two male OBs and definitely preferred the females. My high risk OB right now is also a woman. (I didn't pick her).
