bed rest

The perinatologist we saw on Friday was very concerned that I am going to deliver in the next week so he put me on bed rest. Does bedrest generally mean lying down in bed, or can you sit up in bed as well?

It is laying down whether it is a couch or a bed. Sitting up puts pressure on the cervix which can cause it to dilate/efface. It is best to lay on your left side for optimum blood flow.

If you have any questions, better off to ask for clarification but generally they want you laying down and left side is best. Sitting, reclining, etc. doesn't count. Sorry....

Your peri didn't clarify? If it isn't modified then make sure you stay laying down. Make sure to call them on any Qs you have, too - as they're YOUR medical experts and can tell you what they prefer you do. Good luck! There's some extra resources on bedrest I can find for you if you want.

Re: bed rest

Yeah if it isn't modified I believe you should be lying down on your side. I was on bedrest & modified bedrest w/all my pregnancies. It is hard but worth it!
