How do you get your dh to not flip out? I need to get a few more things today....then if I here back that I'm on bed rest then I need to order my last 2 big baby necessities. Lol. So....how do you do it?

Re: How do you spend without dh freaking?

It's not DH that freaks out, it's me...LOL! I'm the one that monitors our budget and pays the bills etc. I try to buy used as much as I can and shop sales. Otherwise, I do it slowly and really just try to stay in reason. Like right now, I don't really need more so unless I spot a Green line cover with cute girly prints sometime in the next month (won't buy any until our next pay period. I must have one really girly cover....it's just something I'd like and besides, 9 covers would be ideal for 2 since we also use grovia off and on) I don't plan on buying more at the moment.

I am also the budget person in the home... but I did hide packages from DH. They don't understand how many diapers are needed, especially for a NB. When DH saw my stash, he did say that I had to stop... but I had 2 packages on the way still I am done for now, until LO grows out of the stash that I have (around 3 months).

See I'm in charge of the budget too, and typically I'm pretty strict with it. I even grounded myself from FSOT for awhile to not be tempted, but now he is realizing how much I've spent in the last month. I guess I will just have to use the old saying of "it is easier to apologize later than to ask questions before."

My guess is DH is starting to worry about the things we still need for the baby plus hospital bills that will be coming.

Yeah, DH is pretty understanding when it comes to diapers. He was the one explaining to the pregnant director at the preschool we plan on sending DD to that "yeah, it can be a large upfront cost, but you can sell them after you're done and recoup a lot of the money." I guess that she was having trouble getting her DH on board with cloth, so DH was trying to help her out with things he saw as issues before we started. We usually just buy a couple things at a time. I started my nb stash we TTC

Re: How do you spend without dh freaking?

For a while I had a "diaper budget" which was 10 dollars a month. If I wanted something that was 20 dollars I had to wait two months. He had a "music budget" that was the same amount and that worked out. Now with mw fees and things to buy for the baby we are not doing that and we have agreed on a sum that I can spend for the newbie diapers and then that is it.

maybe you could work out something similar with your dh?

That might work. I know that I just need to get a few more things then of course the bigger things that are needed.

Anyone know of any coupons or good deals on nice changing tables with drawers or baby swings?

Re: How do you spend without dh freaking?

I get a lot of nb pfs and covers from consignment stores, he can't complain about that. I am going to spend a lot here in a minute. I figured $145 for 6 diapers, custom dyed yarn and a romper to be knit isn't SO bad. THat's about all I am spending for this LOs whole stash. THe rest is left over from DD1/bought cheap so he doesn't say anything. Also, he knows how much sposies cost. IF you think about it, it's at least $80-$100 each month. Think of what you could buy in cloth for that

Ya sposies are costly. They cost even more than that in the first 2 months when babies use 10-12 a day. LOL! I was looking at newborn dipes the other day and mercy sakes it adds up using sposies on a newbie. I just hope DH will not be upset if I get 1 more thing today.

Re: How do you spend without dh freaking?

We have a baby line in the budget that I'm pretty much free to spend up to that limit every month on what I feel I need for the baby. He leaves most of the decisions for that stuff on me because he knows I've done all the research on it. So long as I don't go over that budget without discussing it with him, it's a non-issue.
