They changed my DD to 9/21/12 though. Off by all calculations just by a day.

I was told today that since I delivered DS1 at 37w6d and DS2 at 35w5d that I will need to start progesterone shots around 16 weeks. They said I will most likely go earlier than 35w5d if I don't and that is definitely a lot more scary than just 35w5d. So I do need to research on that.

Next appointment is 2/17 for an ultrasound and pap!
I've never heard of progesterone to prevent PTL, only to keep a pregnancy. I wouldn't take the shots without having your levels done. I'm gonna go check dr. google for this....

Ok Cristy here's some stuff i found:

FDA approval:
http://www.parenting.com/blogs/show-...premature-birt

This one is about a gel you take vaginally to prevent your cervix from thinning too early:
http://www.marchofdimes.com/pregnanc...gesterone.html

A "why" and a study:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0205081823.htm

http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2011...emature-births

Most talk about a gel, not a shot. Have you been told your cervix thins too early? That seems to be what it helps. Good luck mama!

I will check all of these out....thanks so much for the links!! I have not been told I thin too early. I've never been checked though either other than when I was admitted for labor. I am assuming they will start checking me early this time though. My doctors office doesn't do vaginal checks unless they are needed or requested until we are in labor.

I will definitely need to discuss it further with my OB at my next visit. I am sure we will be there a while so we will have time to chat about it. My blood results should be here within a few days so I can see all my levels. I'll keep you all posted on what I find out.

I normally see my OB but today I saw the MW. She said that most deliveries go earlier than the last and since I have a history of it, it will most likely be the case. ??

I am seeing my regular OB at my next visit. He delivered both boys and is super with a natural birthing/pregnancy plan so I'll wait to chat with him in depth about it. I will be sure to ask him about the cream...
I went into labor @ 32 weeks w/#1... was walking the dog & he pulled me... a Siberian husky... strong dog... anyway, labor was stopped & then I was INDUCED at 39 1/2 weeks because they said the baby would be too big (she was 8lbs, 7oz... too big ... my others were 9lbs, 7oz & 10lbs, 4oz at home... & the biggest was born posterior)... go figure!

No issues w/#2 & #3 w/early labor... in fact, #3 was born at 42 1/2+ weeks... labor kept stopping & starting because she was posterior & had zero room to turn, which we found out once she was born & saw how HUGE she was! LOL Anyway, I will pray your bean stays sticky for the full 40, but not too long after ! I learned how to pray much more specifically after her birth! LOL I just kept praying she would stay put... sigh... this baby I am specifying when I pray that we need he/she to stay put for 40 weeks & not too long & not too short! LOL

I had a friend who had 3 early births & then her last 2 she was INDUCED... go figure! It is said though, that they usually are similar, as far as length.... like I said, I'll be praying for a full 40 for you !

Oh, & don't be surprised if your OB isn't favorable of the cream or if he doesn't know about it... most OBs aren't familiar w/it & will actually put it down... mine scoffed at it... AND I actually had to get BIP that was an RX strength (10%) because I needed something stronger than the OTC 3%. Had I not used it, I wouldn't have 3 DDs & be expecting a 4th LO.

The MW who works w/the OB should be familiar with it if he isn't, unless she is a true "hospital" midwife, & just goes along w/status quo... although, it sounds like you have a very rare OB if he supports natural birth, so he may be familiar with the cream... let us know how it all goes !

Didn't check these out, but when we did IVF, we have to use Crinone "gel" internally for the 1st 12 weeks... I had an extra box, so I used it for 16 weeks... OB said it wouldn't hurt. It was more of a cream than a gel though. It was to support the baby until the placenta took over.

Women who do IVF now are still usually given the same type of stuff, although a different brand/formula, yet they are progesterone.

Also, just a heads up... the stuff causes icky stuff down there, IYKWIM... like cloppy, cottage cheese stuff... I WISH someone would have told ME that! I was beginning to think something was wrong.. I mean REALLY wrong ! LOL

Hmmmm, weird! That's a catch 22... check you early & they can START labor, but it sounds like if they don't they can MISS it too, when perhaps they could stop it from starting too early, if they DID check you... sigh...

Just make sure you drink tons & tons of water!! Which I am sure you will do... but it is just the mama hen in me that made me say that !! LOL
