Just started cloth and now first diaper rash!

Hi mamas. I need help (again.) I just started CDing 1 month ago and all a sudden my baby's bum is red and rashy. I change him every 3 hours during the day and change his diaper overnight so he's not sitting in a soggy diaper. Is it my wash routine? I'm using a tiny bit of tide f&c in the first rince cycle, then Rockin green during the hot wash then an extra rinse. I've been doing this for 3 weeks and all a sudden it seems to be causing issues. I've changed him to Sposies for now until I can figure out the issue. I use tide f&c to wash his clothes and it's not bothering him anywhere else. Does that mean its the RNG?

I've never used RNG, but I've heard a lot of trouble with it. Try stripping them with dawn and then try washing with the tide instead.

We had a rash with rng. I would try stripping as previous poster suggested and maybe try just the F&C.

Are the diapers stinky?

Make sure you use lots of detergent and hot water to get all the bacteria out of the diapers.

No the diapers don't smell at all. They have no scent when done. What do I do to strip them?

In my experience: cd-friendly detergents don't get diapers clean enough, which can cause rashes. I would stick to using Tide in your main wash, and a good amount.
Also, 3 hours might be too long between changes...I usually change every 2 or sooner if baby fusses or is poopy.

My SIL and many, many others have issues with RnG. I wouldn't use it if paid to do so.

That said, you might want to try changing more often. Three hours is a bit long for cloth unless it is at night. Every one or two is a little more realistic, especially for a bum that's adjusting to there not being the chemical neutralizers and artificial 'moisturizers' that sposies have.

Re: Just started cloth and now first diaper rash!

Is there a chance that baby could be sensitive to the material of the cloth diapers? Could he need stay dry material? Or if that's what you're using, could he be allergic to it?

What diapers are you using? My baby was ok for a month and then got a rash. I found she needs stay dry and a good cream at every change, even though I was changing every 2 hours.
