Bassinet with wheels - a lifesaver
Baby Steps by Claire B Kopp (a guide to your child's social, physical, mental and emotional development in the first two years ) - this is not a parenting book, it's a guide with research references. It's enjoyable to read but serious about the subject. A hardwood teething ring Mother necklace Advertisement

Re: Baby registry must have items
Bouncy seat and swing = godsends
Lots of DIFFERENT types of bottles and pacifiers (babies can be rather picky and better that you get the ones the kid will end up hating from others, than buying them yourself) It is never too early to start baby proofing your house, stick those items on the list. Sick baby stuff: (You will not want to have to go to CVS at 2 in the morning to get things for a distressed baby) thermometer, infant Tylenol (no ibuprofen until 6 months), Johnson and Johnson vapor bath, HUMIDIFIER (See if you can find one of the cute Crane ones that goes with your nursery theme . . . or you can get the dragon and put it in the puppy dog-themed nursery like I did. I liked the dragon best; sorry puppy dog), the snot sucker (disgusting but effective and gentler than the bulb syringe; that thing can bust capillaries), vicks soothing rub (its specifically for babies and has no menthol in it; basically it smells nice and can calm them a bit). |

Re: Baby registry must have items
The one thing I couldn't live without is probably bouncy seat. We loved our swing though to.
Some things that are nice are: Baby bath tub safety clippers Hospital like nose thingy..not blunt tip Sling Extra crib sheets and mattress protector pad things that are waterproof Mobile Things for the future like baby spoons I am sure you have most of this and other basics on there.

Re: Baby registry must have items
there are two bigger items that we used through all three kids... breastpump and packnplay. everything else was hit or miss depending on the child. the oldest liked the swing, the middle one HATED it, and the youngest didn't seem to care. they all liked our excersaucer, but only the oldest and middle one seemed to LOVE it. We chose not to find out the gender of our babies, so our things were always gender neutral. But keep that in mind when you select items if you do know the sex. Because subsequent babies don't get big showers or even registries and you should plan to keep what you get now for future kids

Re: Baby registry must have items
If you're not co-sleeping and the house is cool at night, a Gro-bag. I love how they snap on and won't go up over her head and when I lay her down she isn't suddenly lying on cold sheets.
