Starting school right after due date?!? Crazy?!?
Well, I was planning on starting an lpn/lvn nursing school this year and then figured out I was pregnant. Depending if I go full time or part time, it would last a year or 18 months. The year schedule is something like m-f 7-3....the part time is basically the same, except only 2 or 3 days a week instead of 5. I am due July 26. Full time starts sometime in July (so I would potentially still be pregnant) and part time starts in August meaning I will be most likely less than 6w pp when I start. Neither scenario sounds ideal and I'm not a morning person to begin with. Mix that with having to get up every 1-2 hours for bf'ing and I think I'm setting myself up for disaster. Hubby works nights so he would be of no help. He has a slight possibility of moving up to a second shift position but it's not likely anytime soon. If he did that would help a lot though.
I'm worried that I'm going to completely fail out although I have always been a great student. Is this going to be too much of a change do you think? Being postpartum, breastfeeding, baby blues, studying, sleep deprived, etc... I honestly do not see any good coming of this....BUT on the other hand, if I can just push past the first month or two then I know things will get better, easier and why put off nursing school yet another year (starting july2013) when I could be finished by july 2013??

Re: Starting school right after due date?!? Crazy?!?
This is one of those know thyself things. If it were me, no freaking way. I was so sleep deprived and my brain didn't work and my son was so colicky and I had such bad baby blues that such a thing would be out of the question. You may get lucky and have a super awesome postpartum period and really easy baby but know that either way, your grades are going to suffer the first few months. You will be sleep deprived, among other things. If you have a really amazing support system I say go for it. But otherwise it may be wise to wait, as frustrating as that sounds.
Do employers look at your grades coming out of nursing school? If grades don't matter (which I hear in some fields they only care if you got the degree) then you can probably punch through it. But I say go with your gut that starting nursing school right then is probably not a wise idea.

Re: Starting school right after due date?!? Crazy?!?
![]() I'm not one to be a downer, but I have several friends who work in that field and they struggled with balancing all the work the school requires - some didn't even have kids or a husband at the time. The 7-3 time is just the class time itself - not the study, write papers, learn the material time. I know for me there is absolutely no way I could do it. I even had to take time off from University of Phoenix after the last one and that's just online on my own time..... problem was I didn't have any of my own time! |

Well, with my fist kid, I had an okay pp time. I might have been borderline depressed but there was a lot going on. I had just got married and moved cross country and delivered a baby all within 3 months. (was preggo when married) and then 5 months later hubby deployed. The 2nd time around I had twins born 6 weeks early and i had more crying spells, but less sleep deprivation. I cried because I got to go home but they had to stay in nicu. That's also why I got more sleep and I think if I hadn't got that 2 weeks to adjust while they were in nicu I would have broke down. With this baby (hopefully just one but haven't had an ultrasound yet) I am hoping things will go smoother. We no longer live across country, we are near family and no deploying either. (hubby was deployed during 2nd preg..he was home long enough to knock me up and came back a few days before delivery.)
So while I can't guarantee that I won't get baby blues or depression, the odds are in my favor for having an okay time afterwards. As for the school, I will have a lot of studying to do, but most tests or maybe it's quizzes are open book over the computer at home and there aren't any papers that I'm aware of. My sister and her husband have both taken this course and I've seen some of the coursework. It does seem hard, but so interesting at the same time. The reason I am even questioning this or even thinking about going is because we live in a very small town. You either work at Walmart, a school, the hospital, or the casino. Those are basically the only places hiring...oh or the call center and I know none of you lovely ladies want me calling you up to see if you want to add a cable package to your Internet one. Lol. I have not had a job since 2006 and have no training but I do have 2 years of college (basics). It's hard to get a job around here without some kind of training. With kid #4 coming. I need some kind of job. A measly $8 an hour isn't going to do us much of any help after putting kids on daycare because it will be 3 kids in and one in school....

I can definitely understand where you are coming from. If you think you can do it then I say go for it!! It sounds like you have a great support system where you are right now, too. I know that drive for a change and bettering oneself is powerful. There is no limit to what someone can do when they get it!

Not a chance I would do it. You won't have any time to bond with baby. Is there any way you can stay home, looks like you have a houseful that needs momma
there no better job than mothering, nothing even comes close!

Re: Starting school right after due date?!? Crazy?!?
I disagree with that bonding statement. I was in the Marine Corps when I had my oldest and had to go back to work a few weeks after she was born. We didn't have any trouble bonding at all.

As much as I'm not going to like it, I think I'm going to have to do it. My sister said that they have people in there who had babies in the middle of the year (meaning they had harder material and clinicals to do) and still graduated.
