Shorties. Or before that, a drop-knit scarf with silk if you count that.
Not perfect, but functional and I was so proud of them! And did use them plenty even though they were SW.

Re: what was your 1st real knitting project?
I've decided on the Be Loving hat to start b/c it has ribbing & to do longies that is a skill I'll need. going to get some stitch markers tomorrow & I'll be casting on (cast on 2x w/o stitch markers & kept losing my place & had to rip out
).

Re: what was your 1st real knitting project?
I just posted in the show and tell but I made a washcloth, a scarf and then tackled Sheepy Pants longies to go with a Ridinghood sweater I had made for DD (I didn't make it). I messed up the gusset but you can't tell it. I think the rise is a little too big also but it's OK.

Shorties were my first project too, only a few little mistakes. =) You can do it!

Re: what was your 1st real knitting project?
Be Loving will be a great choice! I like to put stitch markers every 10 st when I cast on because I get lost so easy... helps to make sure my ribbing is correct too...

Re: what was your 1st real knitting project?
My first knit was a pair of mittens. It was long before I'd heard of Ravelry and unfortunately my MIL lost them while taking my DD though Walmart. I was so sad...they came out so cute...even if they were knitted with nasty Lion Brand Babyspun.
It was the Family of Mittens pattern from Lion Brand.
