bf question

nak

so last night was hard! nicholas was up from 11:30 pm to 5:30ish am.. there were a few times we drifted off but he would wake up soon after..so no sleep! during these 6 hours he wanted to nurse constantly... i know i have milk.. and i am sure it is plenty as i can tell i am full! so it is not that he is starving.. started getting milk in at day 2 pp.. and by day 4 i was soo engorged at times. well he def took care of that last night!!!! lol but all that nursing left me in pain by the am(cracked, bleeding, tender nipples!!). i am less tender now pretty much all better..but am sooo worried of this happening again!
is this something normal? do the have days like this??

Re: bf question

Is his diaper count good? Has his latch been looked at? The nursing 24/7 is normal the cracked and bleeding isnt really. Make sure his latch is deep. Post in bfing support too TONS of great advice there.

Totally normal for a bf baby to have a fussy period like that.
You should google cluster feeding!

Re: bf question

if you can hear him swallowing and you can tell there's milk in there, it's probably some kind of growth spurt or something (i.e. the cluster feeding thing). man that stinks though, hope you get some sleep soon!

Oh yes, I remember the cluster feeding days. Ds did that 2 or 3 days ( not in a row) when he was first born and then again when he had a growth spurt about 3 weeks later. it sure is exhausting but it will pass.

Baby boy is doing this. My poor nipples are just a mess. I did pump when my milk came in and froze it. One had to be dumped because my nipples were bleeding so much. But all better after the pump
