Re: A ? about breast feeding and a ? about baby powder

No powder for babies, too risky.

I never could burp either of my boys. My oldest had high volume reflux so if I did burp him he would vomit everywhere. Dh could sometimes burp him and that was fine (I don't know why). Dh could also burp my youngest. Strangely Kearnan could also burp his baby brother. Apparently I am just a failure at burping. I would rub the little ones tummies and they liked that.

I always burp my lo after bfing. bf'd babies tend to take in less air, but some still need burping. My little girl needs to be burped or she gets very uncomfortable!
Agreed on both counts :-)

No powder here because DH hates the smell.
DS is EBF and we always burp.

Re: A ? about breast feeding and a ? about baby powder

We never used baby powder but I think it is only the kind with talc in it that is not recommended. The kinds with vegetable powders like cornstarch or arrowroot are ok.

As for burping I think it depends on the baby. My first baby never had gas and he never spit up so I never burped him. My second baby was a gulper and spit up a lot so I usually burped him, except at night.

1. You can, but I don't. I rarely have to use creams and when I do it's herbal so there is no chemicals in them. Motherlove diaper cream works best for us.

2. Some babies do need to be burped, and others burp on their own. I use to have to burp ds1 in the middle of feeds otherwise he would get really upset. But with ds2 I rarely had to burp him because he would burp on his own right from the start.
