WWYD? Baby Shower

So...if this isn't in the right forum please move me .

I'm 26 wks with ds (our first boy). ALL of my friends have just had boys sometime in the last 2 years. So I'm set for clothes, bassinet, crib and bedding, swing, etc. The things I need are DIAPERS (I'm doing cloth on a newb this time so starting from scratch for most of my stash) a wrap for when the baby is tiny, a diaper bag and a car seat.

That being said, how do I ask for this stuff as I'm SUPER specific about what I want/like. I really only like thirsties (duo's & xs) and bummis (nb or xs whatever they call theirs) for newbie stage and then flips (but just the covers) for older. I'm not super picky about the wrap I just want something that's a little lighter weight (I'm very warm and my babies have been heaters!) since DS is due in May. I don't want any stay dry fabrics as my babe's are usually very sensitive. OY! I don't want to "look a gift horse in the mouth", but I also don't want to spend a ton of time returning stuff that won't work. .

Is it inappropriate to ask for money? Is there a way for me to have a baby registry on like Cottonbabies.com or maybe amazon? What should I do?

P.S. the last thing I want is to say I'm doing cloth diapers and get 15 packs of those CRAPPY gerber PF's from walmart.

i have seen quite a few CD stores that have registries, i'm not sure which ones come to mind, but i don't think it's rude at all to do that. i mean, no one thinks it's rude when you register at babys r us!

Re: WWYD? Baby Shower

i know that babyearth.com has a reg.

i think its great to let people know where you are reg. at...
a friend of mine is reg. at walmart, target, and babiesrus...so you could find twom cloth friendly stores to reg with and then one reg type store so that you let folks know what you do and dont need...

heck this is my third baby and i was building a reg. not so much for other folks but so that i could keep up with what all i need to get for baby!

SWEET!! Maybe I'll register at both cottonbabies AND amazon and just let everyone pick what they want to get from either site. My Mom (whose throwing the shindig) suggested a money tree to go toward diapers and such but I HATE asking for money. It just feels rude, KWIM?

Would a little note saying if anyone would like to give money toward a bigger purchase (i.e. car seat) be ok?

I don't think it is rude but I bet a lot of people don't buy off the registry, most people (especially older) don't like buying online. Plus lots of other people like to just run to babies r us the day before the shower.

Re: WWYD? Baby Shower

You're going to get a ton of things you don't want unfortunately.

You can try with registering online but imo most people, especially older ones just buy things they think are cute.

ita w/ pp's, but one thing too is that what worked for ur girls may not work for ur boy, so with that in mind, i would go ahead and register for ur tried-and true items, but if u do get things like gerber prefolds, u can still use them for burp rags, changing mats, or even...a diaper

I would be a little miffed if someone asked for $$ specifically in the invitation but I always buy off the registry. For my shower I had my friend write a poem about going together for one big item. She was able to get our carseat, an umbrella stroller and small diaper bag and the had everyone sign one card. It was my suggestion, I didnt want bogged down with tiny stuff, but she pulled it off so well. You could have your mom so a not about collecting for a stroller or something, then have something cute they can put the $$ in. I think that is a good idea. I dont like it when people ask for $$ directly, but $$ for something specific I think is OK.
