Hylands honey cough syrup

Can I give this to my 13.5 month old? This stuff works wonders on my 5.5 y/o when she's coughing and I want to know if it's safe for my son. TIA!

I have given it to my kids 6 months and up but my doctor is very into natural remedys and recommends it. As long as you make sure to dose accordingly you should be fine. I love the stuff!

Re: Hylands honey cough syrup

We use the Zarbees honey cough formula and it has dosing instructions for kids 1 & up. I believe the dose for the 1-2 yr old range is 1 tsp, or 1/2 the dose for the bigger kids. Even my husband uses it (at 2x the 2-12 dosage) and gets good results.

Please be weary of giving such young kids honey or honey-containing products. Honey can carry botulism spores and while children over 1 have digestive tracts mature enough to handle them in such small amounts, children under one are much more susceptible. Hylands also makes a honey-free cough syrup and perhaps that's what you use, I don't want it to seem accusing or anything but someone else out there reading may not know about the dangers. It's a treatable and usually recoverable illness if caught, but it is serious and usually requires a lengthy hospital stay, sometimes to include ventilator support. I also try homeopathic before traditional meds, just had to be weary of honey the first year.

OP I hope your little one is feeling better fast!

I gave it to my 15month old. I gave him half the 2 year old dose. His pedi said that was fine.

Oh ok awesome. I did give him a 1/2 tsp and it helped. I wasn't sure if the safe age for honey was 1 or 2. I knew under 1 it's not recommended.

With Hylands stuff, I think it says 2+. but my Dr says to go by weight. So my DS is 1, but weighs in the percentage of the 2+, I think its 25lbs, so we give him the full dosage.
