Re: German/European mamas help with diaper stripping

Hi, I'm sure you all ready got an answer to this, but here comes:
Do a cold wash with a full dose of detergent - biological is best (for both the nappies and machine), and if you can add 1/2 a cup of soda crystals that helps especially in hard water areas.
Then do a full wash cycle at 60 degrees with NO detergent at all
Then if needed do repeat rinse cycles until you see no more bubbles...

Basically this ensures the nappies are fully clean and that there isn't any more detergent left in the nappies...

It is also important to do a maintenance wash on your washing machine regularly and clean your filter/trap if you have one.

Maintenance wash:
Full dose of biological powder, or soda crystals - empty machine and hottest wash it does (usually 90 or 95).

This is from the UK forum cloth nappy tree and worked for me

I dont think I can get soda crystals here.

DOes the water actually work without having to add dishsoap or anything?

Re: German/European mamas help with diaper stripping

I followed this and it worked ok - BUT (and a big but) we've yet to use all of the nappies to see if it worked long term. I think this worked for me, coz the first load had so much of the detergent, so the later ones were only to rinse and get it out of the nappies. (It's stupidly humid in London now, and it's taking me 3 days to get some of the inserts dry...)

I've also been looking at another thread called: Three ways to strip... (I can't post links, so let me know if you can't find it there and I'll copy paste the text). It's quite a lengthy research...

SrClaire has rated 3 methods: Fairy (or other diswashing liquid), Diswasher tablet and Vinegar soaking.

I was impressed by the detail of her reporting and am definitely testing the diswasher tablet next

I think you can get Waschsoda at DM. Is this the same Natriumcarbonate? I can look at home if I still have the bag.

It's Bicarbonate of Soda, which is the same stuff you bake with.

So baking soda? I think that would be Natron here. I see it at most groceries but it is sold in tiny little pouces.
