Here is how it works:
You choose a diaper or diapering system and tell us what it would cost to use it from 10-35 lbs. Skip the newborn size. For the purposes of this thread, a stash shall be composed of 24 diapers. For two-part systems, let's do 8 covers/shells. Do not include accessories. ETA: I'm seeing that 8 covers is way too many for some systems! You certainly do not need 8 wool soakers in every size. So if your system involves fastening the diaper around the baby (fitteds, fastened prefolds or flats), then only use 4 covers if you see this note. I just think using the same amounts will give us the fairest comparison of the different diapering options. ![]() Only use discounts that are always available to everyone, like package deals. Tell us the brand name of the diapers. Only use widely available brands. Who wants to play? I'll start in my next post. Last edited by mamaspice; 02-02-2012 at 07:57 AM. |

Re: Let's make a cost comparison thread...
24 Alva Pockets~about $100 shipped (even cheaper from a co-op!)
Add a couple Alva wet bags for $10 shipped. I've tried almost EVERY brand of pocket diaper and these are my FAVE! *I'm not a mf fan, I stuff with Thirsties hemp inserts and flats so I cannot attest to Ava inserts* Total $110 (or less!)

Re: Let's make a cost comparison thread...
Natural organic cloth diapering on the cheap.
Disana wool soakers from littlebirdsorganic, imagine organic flats from nickisdiapers+5 pins or a snappi to eliminate shipping charges. I sized up on the soakers to allow for felting. soakers 3 medium-$72 3 large- $72 3 x-large $72 flats 4 dozen $72 pins 5 $3.75 total $291 If you don't mind a little bulk on your nb just add $72 more for a sm soaker and you have a birth to pt stash. To make this cheaper just do the sm, and large. We were able to skip sizes and just use the covers on the large side.

Re: Let's make a cost comparison thread...
A more expensive all natural organic but trimmer option would be to use lanacare wool covers allowing most babies to be able to wear regular clothes more easily. This would cost $470.20 for 3 of each size s,m,l,x-l. Plus the imagine organic flats and pins for $75.75. This would come to a total of $545.95 cents. MUCH MUCH cheaper than sposies especially since these could be used for multiple babies. This would be birth to pt since the smalls go from 7lbs to 13lbs.
The price of the lanacare covers is from danishwool at 20% of when you buy 5 or more.
