Baby latching fine half the time...
I had my baby on the 30th and am exclusively breastfeeding. Half the time she latches right away and has no issues getting milk... The other half, she roots, latches, let's go, roots, latches, let's go... Or doesn't seem able to latch at all.
Any ideas?

Could this be due to an over active letdown? I had that issue with DD, but it seems odd that she is having issues some times and not others...

Re: Baby latching fine half the time...
I had the same issues with DS early on. It was overactive letdown. I fed DS in an upright football hold. The letdown issues got better as my supply adjusted to match his needs (about 3/4 weeks). kellymom has lots of great advice to help adjust oversupply/overactive letdown.

Re: Baby latching fine half the time...
Could also be partially to using 1 breast over the other. Most people are either right/left handed. That means they have an easier time nursing from one side or the other. Sometimes the key is to find the right positions for the 2 of you. Have someone look at your positioning (not her latch, just how you're holding her) to be sure that her body is perfectly aligned, ear, shoulder hip (1 straight line) with no rotations of the head on both sides.

I am having the exact same issues with my 11 day old. Maybe it is letdown....I am thinking part of it is I have 1 nipple flatter than the other and he seems to have issues on that side most of the time.
