Re: HELP...a frustrated new CDing Mom...

also might wanna try a cotton babies insert with your joey buns...joey bunz hold alot but take a bit to soak in- the cotton babies will absorb it faster and then the joey bunz will soak in in....kwim?

good luck!

Re: HELP...a frustrated new CDing Mom...

I agree with pp, the leakage without the dipe being wet is probably a buildup problem . . .I've found that Dawn (1 - 2 tsp ish) works for our buildup issues. . . Many of the diapers we've gotten used have buildup when we get them. It could also be that your dd "flows" faster than the hemp can soak in. . . You might try putting microfiber insert over the hemp. . .

As for the heavy wetter part. . . I find that we can get closer to 2 hours in our fb if we add a microfiber insert on top of our hemp insert. . . We use Joeybunz and Hemparoos fleece prefolds (They work AWESOME and are about as trim as a couple jb together). for nights, we can't get a pocket, no matter how stuffed to last more than 3 hours. YOu might try dream-eze (www.mtdiaperstore.com) or a very baby simply nights with a wool soaker or cover (we like cya from ebay - very economical, and they work great for us)

good luck! this is a never ending quest for us!

I also agree that its probably buildup.

FWIW, I have a heavy wetter and I wrap my joey b unz in a microfiber auto towel. WhenI used just the inserts, I had leaks all the time. The hemp is super absorbant, but it can't absorb really quickly, so it leaks if you have a fast wetter too. The mf towel catches the urine quickly and t hen it has time to sink into the hemp.

I use Cotton Babies inserts w/ my FB's. I too, have a chunky baby! We never get leaks now, and he's a heavy wetter!
