Re: kinship care in canada..

again - some $$ money - not familiar with what type of stipend you would get - it's not the same a fostering though in Ontario but you would immediately qualify for CTB and UCCB if either if the kids are under 6. Something else to consider - there is going to be a new sibling to factor into this - are you willing to take on another baby in order to keep all the siblings together?? If your sister gives her children to CAS (and is threating Bodily harm to them) CAs will like apprehend the new baby and will look to you for placement of that child too - your not obligated but still....

Re: kinship care in canada..

update on the sibling factor. she had a miscarriage tonight. so that is no longer adding a worry to it at all.

thank you very very much mumtwiceover. that is the exact thing i was looking for. If she threatens bodily hard like last time. i think i may just go the route to take custody of the children for a while if we are both in agreement. this whole situation sucks. and now to add her grief over the miscarriage (it was very a second trimester ) we will see how she holds up.

thank you everyone. i really appreciate it.

Re: kinship care in canada..

Hey Mamma-
I'm in central Alberta as well. 2 previous adoptions and presently doing a foster to adopt.
Have you contacted a worker for info at all?
I know the goal is always to keep kids in their family of origin, it would be worthwhile to gain more info.
I have no advice to give on your personal situation, however I can share that I am not permitted to feed my little guy breast milk- mine or anyone else's- and it did raise eyebrows when I inquired.
I also know you are not permitted to homeschool foster kids in Alberta, they must attend a provincially accredited school.
So maybe that sheds a bit of light on how they feel about 'alternative' parenting choices.
There are some pretty intrusive questions asked about your relationships during the home study, so you would really need to prepare for how much you want to share.
Good luck mamma- I hope you are able to help these kids.
