Funnix Question

Does Funnix actually teach letters/sounds, or does a child need to learn these before doing the program? Thanks!

Yes, it teaches lessons and sounds. We are on lesson 5 so far and so far it has taught 3 letters, I assume the sounds are coming up.

OK, thanks! What's a good age to start this? DS is 27 months and I am still trying to teach him his colors and shapes.

I started funnix with Tharen at 5. I would say 4 or 5 depending on your child. I wouldn't do much younger as it is a phonics program and combines reading and writing. I don't think it would be developmentally appropriate for most children much younger than age 4 and there are probably many children in that age range who might not be quite ready to start as writing can be a tough skill to master for some. If you are just looking to introduce letter sounds both www.starfall.com and the Leap Frog products allow a child to interact with letters and their sounds in a what might be a more age appropriate way.

I agree with Shannon. Most kids wouldn't be developmentally ready for the writing aspect of the program until about 4 or 5. My almost 4 y.o. DD just started this. While the actual phonics/computer part of it is just fine for her, the writing really takes some effort.

Okay, thanks! I didn't realize it incorporated writing. We'll stick with starfall and Leapfrog for now!
