Baby registry...what are must haves?
My BIL's baby-mama has asked me to help her register! I'm so excited, I love pretend shopping! Anyway, she's a FTM and doesn't have a lot of baby experience so needs some ideas. I have some ideas but I want to get some input on what's the most important stuff. Also, most of her friends are 4 hours away, so she was thinking that she would register at Target, but I was going to suggest maybe an online store too? Would that be a good idea? I don't know if she will be CDing but she is into the idea of attachment parenting and wants to BF. I really want to convince her to register for a GOOD carrier, like a Gemini or the like, so she doesn't end up getting a crotch dangler. Is there an online store that has carriers AND other baby stuff? I'm thinking maybe Cottonbabies?
Here is what I am thinking so far for her: breast pump car seat bottles for BM when she pumps a good carrier forehead thermometer That's all I can think of. I'm pretty basic with my kids and don't tend to have a lot of gear so I'm afraid I will miss must-haves.

Re: Baby registry...what are must haves?
I know Buybuybaby and ToysRus have Ergo's online and Moby's. My bestie just had her shower and they were on her registry.
I'll add to what's been mentioned... Crib sheets - 2 highchair Bouncy/Rock N Sleep/Nap nanny - for me an elevated place to safely set baby since dd had some reflux. Wash clothes Clothes - I prefer one piece outfits, no need to find bottoms that match Bath tub - I want a wash pod thingy, my bestie went with the Puji tub for space Swaddler/Wombies/Large recieving blankets Cloth diapers Diaper bag Humidifier and or sound machine Baby monitor if they have a large house (I don't) Changing pad/covers Stroller Sophie the Giraffe.

Re: Baby registry...what are must haves?
I'm not sure if anyone already put it, but a water thermometer for bathtime would be helpful for FTM. She can register in a Target store and continue the registry online as well so that there are some things available in store and some online. That's where we registered and did that. It worked pretty well.

Quote:
If they plan on using a crib, make sure to register for at least 2 waterproof mattress covers. Best suggestion I got (even though we barely ever used the crib) - put on a mattress cover and sheet, then put another mattress cover and sheet over that. That way, when there's a big spit-up or diaper leak in the middle of the night, the wet stuff can just be whipped off, and clean sheet are already on underneath. The wet stuff can then just be stuffed in the washer and baby (and mom) can just go right back to sleep. Other stuff, in addition to the great lists already - - A couple of packs of newborn sposies - lifesavers during the first few crazy days. - Favorite baby care products - body wash/baby shampoo, lotion, baby Tylenol, Colic Calm or gas drops, etc., especially if she has a preference, otherwise people will pick up whatever - Wipes warmers are great, whether using cloth or disposable wipes - Nursing cover if she thinks she might be uncomfortable nursing in public |

Re: Baby registry...what are must haves?
As far as big stores go, I like Amazon for its consumer reviews and ease of creating wish lists, public and private. I think I heard they teamed up with target and offer most everything they do and more.
Things I'd add to consider: Motion sensor night light soapnuts digital video camera yoga ball/glider/rocker recorded soothing music/noises |

Waterproof pads to use on changing table (small square ones)- easy to replace when poop or pee leaks out during changing
Bowls and utensils for when baby starts solids A few clothing items in larger sizes (people always buy newborn and 0-3, but its fun to have new stuff for 12 months or so) Potty seat or chair Toys for babies that are 6 months plus (we had a ton of rattles but got low on toys between that phase and his first birthday)
