Re: average hospital costs?

Just for comparison, my total bill for my 5-day c-section experience with DS 2 years ago was $14.5k, plus about $3.5k for DS (before insurance).

Mine is just the copay, not a %, so it included everything, including all medications and NICU care for my daughter. Don't forget to check your deductible and out of pocket maximum, as well.

Re: average hospital costs?

Both times, the hospital bill(for both of us) was around 10k. With DD we paid 10% of that and with DS, our insurance changed and we paid 20%. My OB's office does global billing, so by the time the hospital billed insurance for everything, our maxes were met, so we paid nothing for prenatal care.

Re: average hospital costs?

We walked in and had NO interventions; she was crowning and born about 15-20 minutes after we got there. Since she was born at 5 in the morning we left at 11:00 the next day or so. She stayed with us almost the whole time. I think insurance covered 80% minus our deductible. Despite almost no medications, vaccines, procedures, etc, the birth still cost 1600$ and we were charged another 500$ for baby's care. So around 2000$ for not much. We are paying a midwife out of pocket this time and having a homebirth, and it's going to be less than 3000$ for everything.

Re: average hospital costs?

We had "good" insurance with DD1, Blue Cross PPO with 80/20 I believe. My bill (vaginal birth, induction, epidural, 48 hour stay) was about $3200 and $1200 for DD. There were some things that were billed separately (anesthesia, etc). It all added up to about $5000 out of pocket.

ETA: I forgot the OB global billing, because it is paid in advance. My OB was about $750 plus extra u/s charges both times.

Re: average hospital costs?

we had to pay co-pays and then also our $1000 deductible to the hospital. And we still got bills *eye roll*

Ours will cost $500 in bills up to our deductable (2-4 ultrasounds and gest diabetic monitoring will add up to at least this) then $600 for global ob/mw/doula cost. Hospital estimation is $10000 in our area for an uncomplicated, unmedicated birth... Though we will only pay 2500 out of pocket (which is easy cause our portion is 20%.

Apologizing in advance for iPhone typos/autocorrect

Re: average hospital costs?

My total hospital bill for my twins birth was about 30,000. That was one day in hospital, then c-section, then 3 days for all of us in a regular room.

My prenatal costs were very high. I pay 20% of everything up to my out of pocket max and then nothing at all. I spent about 3000 on prenatal care (for a high risk pregnancy) and then only had to pay about 1,000 of my hospital bill before I reached the OOP max.

I did have to pay all of the babies' bills b/c they were new to the insurance and had not met their deductibles or maxes.

Re: average hospital costs?

Both dd's were covered 100% and were born under 2 different insurances.
