How can I tell when one side is emptied?
This is my first baby, she is 4 weeks old, and dealing with gas, crying in evenings and watery poops for the past week and a half. I am trying to block feed and oren her nurse from on side until "emptied" but how can I tell when it is? When she comes off by herself I can squeeze and milk still comes out... Do they really actually run dry? She will nurse between 18-28 mins on a side.

Re: How can I tell when one side is emptied?
No, they're never really empty. They keep making milk as long as it is being removed from the breast. I have almost always just nursed one side per feeding and it's worked great for my babies.

What do you mean by watery poops? Breastfed babies are supposed to have pretty liquid stools.

What color is her poop? You probably don't need to block feed otherwise it could mess up yout milk supply which sounds like it's trying to regulate.
As for being empty, the breast will be really soft and may become more 'floppy' and saggier looking than the other. That's how i tell. DH paughs at me for grabbing my boobs before nursing to check which one is fuller lol.

Re: How can I tell when one side is emptied?
Her poops don't have the little seeds anymore and are more watery than they were before. They were a dark green but now they are more yellow green. I was trying he block feeding because she has been really gasy and fussy. She seemed to be in pain from it. so I thought it could be heavy let down or dairy... Block feeding is what I read to do for the heavy let downs and maybe to much foremilk. I have also started to cut the major dairy products.
