Cradle cap
DS's head smells. It's not yellow yet but all over. Dr said since it smells we r past using baby oil etc. He said use head & shoulders. Seems so abrasive? He said it's the most gentle of all dandruff shampoos.
Anyone tried olive oil or baby oil? Did it work? I think I still might try oil just to see before the shampoo. Anything else you have used? |

Re: Cradle cap
NAK
Pedi told us the same with N (use heads & shoulders). I picked this up at Walmart and used it instead. We still use it from time to time.

Re: Cradle cap
It took some time to work, but worked well. I used a comb to gently work it in better than just rubbing it on top with my fingers. Smells a lot better than dandruff shampoo and easier on their eyes if it accidentally gets in too!

My son still get "cradle cap" yellow flakey hair at 3 and a half. We have tried everything.
What shampoo are you using? I switched to California baby tea tree and lavender shampoo and only wash his hair every three day. To get rid of it put a bunch of olive oil on it. I use EVOO. Really rub it into the scalp and let it sit at least 15 minutes. Then use the head and shoulders to wash it out. You may have to wash twice. When shampooing really rub it in and use a fine tooth comb to bring up all the flakes. Make sure you don't get any in his eyes. Then I would switch the California baby and only wash every 3 days once it's gone. Good luck!

Re: Cradle cap
I used olive oil successfully when ds was a baby. rubbed a bunch in his head and left it for a few hours, then bathed him and scrubbed gently on his head. At 2yo he still gets yellow build-up. . .haven't been doing anything for it lately. I don't want to use anything harsh, but Id love to get rid of it.

Re: Cradle cap
With my ds2 who is 4 now, he was getting this still, no idea why but I tried pert plus, not the dandruff one, just green bottle, regular hair and it took it away and he hasn't gotten it again. before trying this shampoo, I was putting evo into a little cup with tto & lavender eo, warmed it up a little and slathered it on his head and put a baby beanie on, I was doing this before bed time and in the morning would brush the hair in the tub and shampoo it out, it works. The pert keeps it all away and we haven't had issues at all anymore.
My baby hasn't gotten cradle cap and if/when she does, we will be using the evo with tto& lavender mix.

Re: Cradle cap
We use what Kate uses. DH doesn't like it though-the smell and residue it leaves. Usually when using it I bath baby in the evening and use the stuff and then in the morning rinse their head again. Baby oil turned ds1 red. I use dandruff stuff for the others. DS3 doesn't get it anymore, but I don't see a point in getting him different shampoo.
