Re: Do others have 2 year olds not interested in PT

Riley is 2 1/2 and sometimes he goes, sometimes not, i don't want to push him, but I ask him often and praise him when he does

I didn't vote because my DS is now 5. BUT he was a PITA to PL. I finally just had the attitude, he will do it when he is ready! Then one day (age 4) he just decided he had enough of dipes and was ready to use the potty. Just....like....that.

Re: Do others have 2 year olds not interested in PT

My DD is 2 and a half now and she has almost no interest. We have a little potty in the bathroom and she likes to sit on it but she thinks its for fun. She has had 2 small bms on the potty but i think they were accidental and she peed on the potty a few times but nothing consistent. She will say she has to potty and we go in there and all she wants to do is play. She likes to flush the big potty and play with toilet paper but thats about it. It dosent bother me much that she is potty trained but my family pressures me about it and I dont appreciate that. I know they mean well but it will happen when it happens.

Yeah- my Gavin is 3.5, and he could care less. He almost proudly announces when he has poop.

I am hoping to do naked potty training this summer with him.

27months old. flip flopping on this issue. I am keeping her in diapers to save the carpets until she insists that she's really ready

Re: Do others have 2 year olds not interested in PT

I voted yes, because my son pt'd - almost instantly - at exactly 2.5yo. He had been kind of pt'ing off/on for a couple of months but it was a HUUUGE fight between he and I. I finally gave up and handed all the control/responsibility over to him - and told him as much, "It's up to you - go if you want, I don't care" type of stuff...and one day he asked for underwear and was instantly day-trained. For 1 week, he wet the bed (at night) every other night...so, he wet the bed 3 nights. He was then night-trained. The key for us..BIG key...was giving him COMPLETE control and letting him know that on a regular basis.

My 2.5yo is NO where near interested in learning to use the potty! I'm waiting a little closer to his 3rd birthday (end of July) to go cold turkey and see where that gets us. Hopefully in the next month or two, he'll get a clue, LOL!
Right now, at least he comes and tells me when he poops. That's a step, right?

Re: Do others have 2 year olds not interested in PT

My boy twins didn't want anything to do with PT until I ended up nudging them hard at 3-1/2.

Try not to worry. He'll come along! Best advice is to offer it, but don't worry at all and don't force the issue at this point.

Re: Do others have 2 year olds not interested in PT

I hope not to get too flamed, but my three and half year old is still not going on the potty for #2. Now, if this was my first or second child, I'd be upset...But after going through this three times previously I realized something....They eventually "get it" When that happens I don't know...I just know that eventually, before they leave my house for their own life, they will most likely be pottying on the toilet My third, a girl, was having accidents until about 4 years old, then one day it just stopped and we never had a problem....

I am a whole lot more relaxed about it now

Re: Do others have 2 year olds not interested in PT

Gavin only pees at home. He wont' poop in the potty or use the potty out in public.
He wasn't too interested in it at first either. He would pee on the floor too. But we started giving him a gummy bear or a candy heart when he did pee in the potty. So now he does it all the time. We have just decided no more candy though since he now knows and are trying to encourage pooping in the potty with the candy method. I know it's not the best way to go, but our kid never gets candy or any other kind of sweets. (not even juice, he only drinks water and some milk).
It was a great positive reinforcement.
