baby crying when offered potty
Hi everyone! This is my first post here. So I've been ECing my LO for the past month (she's 3.5 months now), and we've had a lot of success, catching about 80%of pees (up to 20) and almost all of the big poops. The last few days though she's started to seem really upset by it, often starting to cry even before we get into the bathroom, even when i KNOW she needs to go. I take her upon waking, before and after carseat/swing/carrier, and every 20-30 minutes or if I think there's a cue like pulling off the breast. Maybe I'm overdoing it? I hate for this to upset her so much but I also want to give the opportunity to not go in her diaper! any ideas?

Re: baby crying when offered potty
It could be that she is enjoying whatever is going on around her now that she is a bit older and you ending it to go potty makes her cry/fuss.
You could try pottying her by simply taking her diaper off and holding her over a bowl or prefold where ever you are rather than taking her to the bathroom.

Re: baby crying when offered potty
Hi there!
I agree w/Jessicah. It might be that she wants to be pottied right where she is. I tried to have a few bowls and potties throughout the house so I would be able to potty easily. Maybe your DDers crying is her signaling that she has to go and this is how she wants to tell you. It might be that she is uncomfortable holding it until you get to the potty. Another thing that I did to keep my DD happy on the potty is nurse her. As soon as I started nursing her I removed her dipe and held her over a little bowl. We also had the popping on and off the breast so sometimes I would sit her upright over the bowl to give her a chance to go. Hope your DD goes back to happy pottying! |

Re: baby crying when offered potty
I also did the nursing over the bowl for my daughter (and son). I did it until they were around 4 to 4.5 months old. When not nursing/peeing, I'd hold them over the bowl usually whenever they needed to pee/poo. Around 4.5 months I started sitting them on the baby bjorn little potty more & more since they were getting heavier. I think it was more at that point that I'd hold them over the big potty from time to time. Now I hold my son (11 mo.) over the big potty about 1/2 the time and the other half he's on his baby bjorn. Hope it's going better.

Re: baby crying when offered potty
We've had this problem too so thanks for posting! We find ourselves doing the most ridiculous stuff in the mirror to try to get my daughter to relax and pee. So far though the dog is the best distraction. She is the only one who can get my daughter to laugh when she's really upset. All she has to do is sit there, but my daughter thinks it is the funniest thing! Dog has no clue why.
