Re: Found a great article :)
Interesting. I'd always said (before nursing) that if a kid was old enough to ask, it was creepy. But I'm still nursing DD2 at 14 months. She began signing 'milk' at 6 months, and now when she wants to nurse she signs while saying emphatically "mih-mih!!", so I guess it's not creepy after all!!

Re: Found a great article :)
I wanted so badly to nurse DS exclusively, but sadly he had an agressive, painful, bad latch and i was not a good preducer, so I pumped and gave him the tiny amount i could get. I would give anything to be able to still nurse him. I used to have the same thought, that if they could ask, they are too old, but if we were able to nurse from day 1 and he still wanted to, I know I would- i would do anything for him, and i know I would still enjoy the bonding. Fingers crossed I will have better luck with my next one someday! At his age, I would probably keep it at night and upon waking.
I still stand firm with the 7-8 year olds... way too old.

Re: Found a great article :)
There's an interesting book that your libraries (or interlibrary loan) may have. "Breastfeeding: Biocultural Perspectives", by Katherine Dettwyler. It is however more investigative (430 pages), less story.

Re: Found a great article :)
My ds just turned one on friday and this is the longest I have nursed a baby. My ods stopped just before one on his own and my dd had too many food allergies that I did not think I could live on her diet. Now yds has the same food allergies and we do just fine. I dont know when I will wean him. He wont take a bottle or a cup, but I am guessing around 2.
