Thank you all for your encouragement and advice. My husband and I (and my daughter, Amanda) agree that Eliana (Ellie on uh) and Alana (Ul anna) don't sound alike and that the family is just going to have to get over it. We like the name so much more than anything else we've considered.

It's a done deal - this little one will be Eliana (now we have 6 weeks to decide on a middle name...)

My daughters name is Anika and I got so much crap from my husbands family for it because she wasn't named after anyone in his family.

I am German and my husband is American and people don't seem to understand that it is pretty hard to find a name that doesn't sound completely stupid in both languages.

her middle name is Xenia which people keep pronouncing Xena. It's pronounced Sennya. Thet keep asking me why I named her after a TV show. Pretty annoying but I stand behind the names we picked.

Our baby that is due april 9th will be called Nina and I stopped caring what family thinks. We are the ones that will use the name the most:-)
