Re: homemade bread in bread maker?
I make bread machine bread every week, and i've just tweaked my go-to recipe (which i got from allrecipes.com) a tiny bit and done it w/ half whole wheat, half white flour. I usually even just leave it on the quick cycle, even though it has a lonber cycle for whole wheat. I love not have to spend 5 bucks on a loaf of good bread! My machine has all sorts of bells and whistles which i dont use (timer, mode to make jelly, etc) so a simple one would probably be sufficient for most uses!

Re: homemade bread in bread maker?
i love my bread maker! tbh, i don't even know what kind i have
sorry. it's super old, my grandma gave it to me, i don't know how long she's had it. but i love it! i know a lot of "real" bread bakers say that the bread made in the bread machine isn't as good as what you could make by hand, and i have no doubt it's true. i've made some amazing bread by hand. but, more often, i make bricks that no one will eat. except me, because it makes me sad not to eat something i put so much effort into bread making is an art, and i feel like i really need someone who knows what they're doing to show me how to do it, how to mix the ingredients right, how to knead it perfectly, etc. and i just don't have the time to experiment and figure it out on my own so that it works consistently everytime. and for some reason i've never had much luck with no-knead breads either. but the bread maker is fantastic everytime, and dh will actually eat it! (he's super picky, i don't think my former breads were THAT bad, it's just that, if it's not perfect, he'll say "good try! better luck next time, i'll run to the store and grab some bread since it didn't work out )anyways, i make an all whole wheat recipe that i found online. you don't need to use only the recipes in the book. if you do a google search for bread machine recipes, you'll find something. just make sure you know exactly what size loaf your bread maker can handle so that you make sure you either find a recipe for that size, or adjust one to work. also, mine doesn't do this, but i know there are some that have some really cool features like jam or butter making, that go beyond bread making. i think my mom's does, but i haven't experimented with hers much, and like i said, mine is super old, so it can't do that. but if i had to buy one, i would consider it if i thought i would use it, mine works great though as is. also, i love the time delay feature. i work full time, so i usually throw the ingredients in the bread maker after ds goes to bed at night, it usually takes me all of 10 minutes, tops. and if i can get it going sometime between 9-10 pm, i can put it on a 9 hour time delay, and by the time i'm making breakfast at 6:30, i have fresh hot bread. i LOVE waking up to the smell of fresh baked bread we haven't bought sandwich bread since i got this thing over a month ago.

Re: homemade bread in bread maker?
I was given a bread maker (from a lovely irl friend and ds mama) and I love it! The catch is it makes a loaf big enough for a 'bread side' like for dinner or something. Nothing major for sandwiches.
