Question Your favorite way to strip diapers and how often do you do it?

So my diapers are starting to smell when they are wet... not a "urine" smell either but something really "funky". I have yet to strip them (I got them used) and have been using them for about a month now.

What are ways for me to know when it is time to strip CDs? How often?
What is your favorite way to strip them?

TIA

I stripped mine when I noticed a funky smell when they were wet. I wasn't sure if this was from too much detergent (buildup) or from my detergent (Country Save) not getting them clean enough.
I washed them on the hottest, longest wash with a full cap of Cheer. Then I ran a short hot wash with bleach. I figured that took care of any "not clean" problems we were having.
Then, I rinsed on warm a good 4-5 times. I just rinsed until I saw no more bubbles of any kind. I figured this took care of any buildup.
Haven't had any problems since! I'll do it this way again if need be.

fastest, easiest, cheapest way.. boiling.. but of course anything with elastic or PUL I either bleach or use dawn.

You might just need to use more detergent. My flats started to smell a little swampy after a few weeks, and increasing the detergent helped. I've never had to strip them -- stripping isn't always a necessary part of diaper maintenance.

A lady at a cloth diaper shop told me the other day: If they stink when baby pees, it's buildup from too much detergent. If they stink when they're coming out of the washer, it's too little detergent. I don't know if that's true (she also was hard-selling me the detergent her store carried).

When I get the faintest but of ammonia smell. Or they smell like anything. (other than when he poops, of course)
A little bleach and blue Dawn added to the washing machine while it's filling up.
Hot wash cycle.
Add soap. (I use Tide Free and Gentle and the amount I use depends on the load. I treat them like regular laundry) Hot wash cycle.
Cold wash cycle with a little vinegar.

I don't really have to do this often. Maybe once in the last few months? I don't use MF so that cut out a lot of stench issues.

I am been cd for 7 months and never have to strip my diapers. A couple month ago a Knowles a light smell on my clean diaper and I just switch detergent and now they are nice and clean. I think they were't getting clean enough.

I just use bleach and a little extra detergent. Then, I run a couple hot washes with no detergent to get them extra clean/roused. I used Dawn and a toothbrush to rectify a repelling problem once but I just scrubbed them and rinsed them manually. I think Dawn is a little over-recommended considering the issues it cam cause for your washer but that's just my humble opinion.

I have bleached 3 times in 8 months of CD'ing and used Dawn once (CJ's Butter caused us issues with our BG 4.0s).

What is this dawn everyone is using? A type of laundry detergent? (Sorry if that is an obvious question, I have never bought Dawn before!)
