Auto microfiber towels to make doublers/inserts?

Has anyone used these for material? I was at Walmart and saw a big stack on sale for pretty cheap.

I'm primarily set up to use prefolds with covers but the sewing bug is hitting me and I am going to try my hand at making some pockets so I've been looking into stuffing options.

If I used it as a doubler in a PF - I've heard you don't want to put this next to the baby's skin so any suggestions for a fabric to use on the outside?

I'll be honest I am kinda overwhelmed with the wicking/soaking factors of fabrics. Would I want to make the outer layer of the doubler not be absorbant so the wetness would go through to the towel? Or just use a cottony type layer?

Sorry I am so clueless. I need to make myself a cheat sheet.

I used the MF as doublers and they worked better than anything else for my heavy wetter. I tri-folded the MF towel and made a 'pouch' of flannel on both sides or flannel on one and fleece on the other side and stuck the MF towel in there and sew it shut.

So in this setup, would you put the fleece side next to the babe's bottom?

I've done like a very baby soft terry on one side & left the other as just microfiber & then you fold shut & put the terry against the bum. Makes it pretty quick drying too

Here's a cheat sheet for you:

I had my microfiber towels serged with a layer of flannel on each side, that way it never has the danger of touching DDs skin. I have also heard of people sewing flannel or something on just one side and doing the same thing, or even tri-folding and sewing one end, so it is easier to fold, but still dries quickly.

I've found though, that the MF gets buildup really easily IME. Apparently it's not meant to be washed in hot water and can pick up fuzzies that affect its absorbancy if washed with flannel or other cottons... Just what I've heard, we don't use it anymore.
