Baby won't latch on at night

My little one will be 2 weeks tomorrow. She nurses great all day long. She latches on with out pain and empties the breast. Everything is great until that first middle of the night feeding. She wakes me around 4am and when I try to put her to the breast she acts like she can't find it and if she does get it in her mouth she spits it out and makes faces like I'm poisoning her. I tried for a few nights and just gave in and give her a bottle during night feedings which she takes without issue. They gave me 2 boxes of 6 nursettes when I left the hospital but they are close to gone now. What could possibly be the problem? Any ideas or suggestions?

she may be used to getting the bottle.

My ds has this same problem but he tongue tied. We had it clipped but he got a posterior tongue tie as well so it still causes issues. At night since he was born has been the hardest time to get him to latch. I have to sit up and pancake my breast to latch him on then we lay back down.

My lo couldn't nurse laying down until he was several months old. Is that what you're trying to do?

My lo couldn't nurse laying down next to me in bed until he was several months old. Is that what you're trying to do?

I'm sure she is at this point but it didn't start that way. I only went to the bottle at night after 4 nights of fighting with her.

I do try to nurse her laying down but I don't think thats it either because we take a long nap in the afternoon and she latches on ok at that time and the first feeding in the morning is laying down in bed.

I will try again tonight because like I said daytime we have zero problems. I guess once the nursettes are gone neither of will have a choice but to nurse at night.

Have you tried expressing a little milk so she can taste it on your breast?

Also, sometimes in the early days, I needed to pump a little to get let down to make my breast fuller/firmer for my LO to latch better.

Re: Baby won't latch on at night

Last night she woke twice to eat after I went to sleep. The first time she still would not latch/nurse. I tried sitting up to see if that would work but she just fussed until I got the bottle. She fell right back to sleep and then so did I. The second time she took it and we fell asleep together with her on the boob.

I don't mind that she takes a bottle of formula here and there because not to long from now she will have to. It's just she is doing it backwards. I was hoping to keep nursing her in the evenings and at night for the convenience of it and bottles during the day when she will be in daycare.

How many hours is she sleeping between night feedings? Sometimes our babies have been frantic because they are very hungry and too tired. Maybe wake her enough just to latch a bit earlier?

I would suggest this. and if this doesn't work pump during the day and give her bm in a bottle at night. Also you should pump at night if she isn't going to nurse at night.
