Tie dye GMD prefolds

Has anyone ever tie dyed their GMD prefolds? *I saw a picture of a tie dyed flat and I would love to dye a couple of my GMDs! Would it do anything to the integrity of the prefold ya think? *I plan on using these for 3-4 kids!

Re: Tie dye GMD prefolds

I called Dylon a while back and they told me that their dye was not suitable for use on diapers because of the wet pee on them which can make the dye come out and potentially get absorbed by the skin. GMD How To Booklet says not to dye them for this reason. It definitely voids any GMD warranty. Home "permanent" dyes next to skin has not been proven safe for baby.

Choose cute covers and leave the diapers plain.

Or to decorate, embroidering is really nice. Or add colorful preshrunk fabric to the back side of fully shrunk prefolds. The colorful fabric also adds one more layer of absorbency, which is handy and they look really cute that way.

There was a post here a few years ago about a baby's bottom that got dyed blue because the dye wasn't set right. That can't be healthy for baby. Embellish the outside only with professionally dyed fabric for spicing up prefolds.

Re: Tie dye GMD prefolds

I use Jacquard Fiber Reactive Dyes to dye my flats. They are made specifically for natural fibers and don't bleed.
