I've made diapers with the back pocket of adult jeans that came out cute, it really just needs to fit on the butt of the soaker. If it doesn't shrink enough fit as a soaker piece, you could do a band around the top of longies and have the pocket in the front or back.

Worst case, just cut around the pocket with a seam allowance and appliqué it onto something else

ETA: Oh, and don't use the wool setting. Hot wash, a little dawn, and then pop in the dryer if you want to felt more. Easier to keep an eye on in the dryer since you can stop it to check whenever.
