Alternative to waterbirth??

So we had fully planned on doing a waterbirth this time, I was super excited, my midwives offer it and we were set. So I went to sign up for the class they require you take, it is $300 for the class and the kit for the birth. We cannot afford that at all. So water birth is out.

Now I need an alternative, I did hypnobabies with my first but lost concentration during trasition and got an epi, my second I got an epi right when I went in, I had a bad reaction to it, so now Epi is not an option.

So what does everyone recommend???

I'm not very familiar with hypnobabies and how similar it may be, but I did the Bradley Method and that worked for me.

Since you had an epi twice before, are you going for a natural hospital birth? Just wanted to be sure before I made any other suggestions.

Re: Alternative to waterbirth??

I did a natural hospital birth with midwife and I used The Bradley Method. Is there a shower or small tub available to soak in? I did find that the tub made a HUGE difference during labor. I did not deliver in it though I felt like I could not get enough traction to push.
Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way worked wonderfully for me. But I did need complete silence in the room. Every time I was distracted the pain would come back. I just zoned out and concentrated on working with the contractions which is what it teaches.

I read the same book and was going to suggest the same thing about a shower or tub in the room. Even a hot shower helped me during labor.

Great thank you ladies, I will look into the Bradley Method, I will also be discussing this with my midwives at my next appointment.

They require you to take a class to have a waterbirth? That is just weird! I agree with the shower suggestion, though. It helped a bunch in my first labor.

I agree, see if you can labor in a tub, and then just never get out what are they going to say? but that's just me

I am also curious why you have to take a class to go along with renting the tub. My MW didn't have one so I rented one online. (I looked it up and I don't think it would be a significant savings for you.) Just curious.
