Re: Reassure Me!
So there's a new twist. We just found out that the sewer ejector system that the house currently has, might be illegal. They are waiting to hear back from an environmental study that was done on the land to know whether they have to replace it before selling or not. I'm a little annoyed that they didn't disclose this before. They do have "ejector" listed on the info sheet, but nothing about it being an issue. Anyone have experience with this?

Re: Reassure Me!
It would end up a blessing if they haveto replace as it would be new! I have never heard of anything like that before? What I found google'ing was it was only a $300 part though. Looked easy to install. No real experience though.

Re: Reassure Me!
The problem is that the sewer ejector is there instead of having a septic field or holding tank. I'm not sure if this is Biblical (and if you are a believer and know, please tell me!) but I've been praying that this would be our answer from God. If they have to replace the ejector on their dime, then we will buy it.

Re: Reassure Me!
So, we still haven't made a decision. I just emailed the realtor to ask if we could see the house again, and we're going on Monday. He also said they just dropped the price by $10,000! And, he figured they would go for a bit less than that. So things are definitely working in our favour. It's just still so scary to make such a big decision! Crazy! If you think of us, I would definitely appreciate prayers

Re: Reassure Me!
I don't know if you are a Dave Ramsey follower or not but even he says that mortgage debt isn't bad debt. He just doesn't want it for his family anymore and does encourage it to be paid off as soon as possible. Honestly, I think if you asked his opinion, he would say a 15 year mortgage beginning at your age would be just fine. Especially since it sounds like you are in good financial standing by being only 3 years away from being debt free including the house. That would be difficult to go from 3 years to the finish line to 15...so I understand where you are coming from. You may not be able to pay extra right away, but your income will rise over the years, you will find 'snowflakes' and if you have the drive, you will have that new house paid off in less than 15 years. :twocents: and the house and land are gorgeous! I pray that it works out for the best. Good luck!

Re: Reassure Me!
We went to see the house again today. It's like we remembered it. I'm not crazy in love with everything, but it's really nice, and a whole lot better than what we have right now! The big issue I'm having right now is that my Mom is totally against the idea. I called her before we went to see if she would watch the kids so we could have a better look. She went into lecture mode, and just really dampened my spirits And of course, it's cold, windy, and cloudy today. Ugh. Also, I'm just not sure I can deal with the school district change. Hubby is totally against me homeschooling, so I'm just so not sure about it. Sigh. BIG FAT SIGH.

Re: Reassure Me! Interesting update...
Update: June 29
Wow. I NEVER thought I'd be back at this thread But, here I am. We had given up the dream of this home for a few reasons. One of them was the money. We didn't want to be strapped so tight for cash. The other reason was the schools. I refuse to put my kids into that local school system. My husband is pretty against home schooling... so we were at a stand still. It didn't take too long and the house sold. BUT, just days before possession date, financing fell through for the couple that bought the home. So, it's for sale again........ and the price DROPPED! It went from $239,900 to $219,900. And we are currently in the process of trying to clean up our rental to sell (that's a whole other nightmare story). So.... I can't help but wonder if God is saying, "Here you go! I saved it for you!". If the rental sells quickly, the only real hurdle would be coming to an agreement on schooling. I just can't believe we're at this place again! Here's the listing, since the original is gone.

Re: Reassure Me! Interesting update...
That is a cool house and 15 minutes from where you are is not bad. For me to find a place with that kind of acreage we would have to travel a lot farther out of town which we do not want to do. Good luck!! It is a beautiful place! I know what you mean about schools. Schools are important to me but if I had to live with a bad school I would supplement or home school.

Re: Reassure Me! Interesting update...
What are your DH's issues with homeschooling? Maybe if we could help you clear up some misconceptions...
