We love our BGE, no holes in any of ours yet (knock on wood) I wash in All F&C like a PP and mostly dry in the dryer (I do line dry in spring/summer/fall weather permitting). I think weather they have holes or not could definitely be related to wash routine and also how large of a stash. We have 8 but they aren't our main diaper (we use mostly prefolds) I'd think you'd want at least 24-36 for one baby to minimize wear and tear if used exclusively.

I've had mine for about 18 months, use tide and dry them on medium in the dryer. Not a single hole yet. I think it might depend on the batch too. Maybe I just got lucky. But from what I've heard, even with the holes they still work great.
