Re: About to cry... or scream... Or maybe both!

My dad did something a little similar. He wanted to get a second car seat so DS would have one and we wouldn't have to bring ours out and switch it all the time. I said I wanted to get a new one because used isn't safe and he went and bought a used anyways. I didn't even bother with it, it was actually in pretty good shape, but yeah...I sometimes wish I stood ground on that. Fortunately we aren't out there at the moment.

That said, I'd be peeved too, especially if it smelled bad and was obviously in horrible shape. I'd go out and buy a new one anyways.

A booster booster? b/c a kiddo that age shouldn't even be in a booster yet?

She means a harnessed seat just a forward only one that can turn into a booster.

Sorry Chelly. So frustrating! Reminds me of the arguments I would get into with dh about RF over a year and different safety features of different seats. He also is convinced its all a scam.

But I DID prevail eventually.

Re: About to cry... or scream... Or maybe both!

Thanks for all your support mamas! I knew I could count on the DS mamas!

Well DH woke up at midnight to find me crying in the shower being so stressed out about things and that booster and him telling me to leave him alone were that last straw. He said he was only trying to help. He got the booster (harness booster) from his best friend who used the booster for his business.... driving limos. So he says he knows where it came from but I explained that it doesn't mean he knows the history of the car seat. It's obviously been thrashed and limo drivers (mostly single men) don't care about the safety of these things and wouldn't put it past them to toss it in the warehouse after their shift. He didn't know it was expired so that it stunk (I do have pregnancy nose). But at least we don't have to use THAT seat.

We didn't actually *agree* on the $100 car seat. It's just that I got more reasonable and went from the $300 seat to the $100. Which I feel is a good compromise considering the $300 seat used on CL is $100.

I know, BTDT... battled my DH for a bit & then he came around, thank God! Our kids outgrow their 5pt at 2 YO, at which case it is said we should just put them in a booster.

Anyway, even my DH now agrees no used seats & no expired seats... he told me how they have to replace their hard hats at work every 4 years for the same reason (the materials deteriorate) even if they haven't been dropped, hit, or on someone involved in an injury.

Can you try telling your DH to go w/you to a car seat tech at a fire dept, PD, etc.?? Sometimes they just need to hear it from someone else... THAT really helped my DH & won him over... especially the men medics & officers who were techs... he has nothing against women, but he tends to think they side w/wives on these issues... LOL... I tried to tell him a car seat tech sides on the safety of the child, not mama. He gets it now... took him a while though.

Re: About to cry... or scream... Or maybe both!

glad that yall seem to have this worked out!!!

I would have the same response from my dh...he doesn't get it either when it comes to carseats and too feels likeits just another way for "them" to get our $$...we did just buy a few carseats and when he went to BRU to look at baby gear in general he was shocked at the prices of things...and was glad that I didn't want the super over $300 stuff but instead had done alittle homework and found stuff tha tcompared at cheaper prices...

Well if it continues to come up that we buy used then I will bring this up. I've already found AAA has a car seat inspector (assuming it's free since I have AAA?), it's 30 minutes away but we drive past there to leave for appointments and then he'll have to be with me

Re: About to cry... or scream... Or maybe both!

Is it a money issue with your dh? Maybe he thinks $50 is a lot more reasonable while you were settling for a $100 seat...maybe time to compromise? What about a $75 seat? There are plenty out there ( brand new, of course! ) in that price range, and this way you and dh are meeting in the middle. Just a thought... :-) I think the last harness booster we bought was in the $60 range...we bought it from Target I believe, it may have been on sale...but in any case it was a great seat, comfortable, held up very well, and we didn't have to pay a fortune for it...always a bonus ;-)
