MAKE A BABY K'TAN!!!

At www.thebabywearer.com there is a thread on how to make your own Baby K'Tan with a link. I made one tonight as a baby gift for a good friend in about 40 minutes, including cutting time. You only need a straight stitch(make sure you stretch as you sew!!!). It cost me $11. It came out CUTE!!!

I've seen a K'Tan IRL so I was able to make the pocket on the sash that reverses to make a storage pouch, but those directions aren't on the site. Still, uber-easy and uber-cute.

(A K'Tan is like a wrap you don't wrap- 2 loops of fabric you wear in an x, and a sash for extra support if needed.)

I am totally doing this! On the K'tan website there is a small loop of fabric (goes on your back) that connects the two big loops, but I didn't see that on the tutorial. Did you make that part too or does it seem to be unnecessary?

Edit: one more question...
1) the tutorial says "stretchy knit fabric" the K'tan website says "100% cotton"... What did you use?

Re: MAKE A BABY K'TAN!!!

I skipped the loop, it annoyed me. BUT you can just make one yourself, easy. I am going to make another for my cousin's wife and make the loop snap on/ off so she can choose.

I used 50%poly/ 50%cotton interlock in the same weight as the K'Tan- very lightweight fabric. JoAnn only had HEAVY 100% cotton, didn't want that. The fabric should be like a man's undershirt and no heavier. For my cousin I think I'll order 100% cotton jersey or interlock from www.denverfabrics.com, or maybe www.naturesfabrics.com, whichever is cheaper.

That helps a ton! I'm actually currently at joanns :-) I have a 60/40 cotton poly blend. It's a teeny thicker than an undershirt... Feels like a soft sheet! I haven't been able to find a fat quarter fabric I like for both sexes (for the sash), so I'm going to do one side boy, one side girl. Sound crazy or doable (for making and using)?
