I would have flipped out, but we don't use any otc meds like that anyway! Don't worry, though, as people said, since the "danger" is for Reyes syndrome and he would have to have the other things people said!

Yes and some of us loved the taste so much(orange) that we ate lots of them.

Re: My MIL gave my son aspirin!

Here are the initial symptoms of Reye's Syndrome:

Rash on palms of hands and feet
Persistent, heavy vomiting that is not relieved by not eating
Generalized lethargy
Confusion
Nightmares
High fever
Headaches

While a single dose of aspirin CAN in fact lead to Reyes, it is a rare complication and your child does not appear to have other predisposing factors (such as Varicella). I would watch your LO just in case, but I would not worry too much. I would also talk to your DH and MIL to make sure they understand that aspirin is generally not recommended in children.

I can totally remember that taste! That's why they've stopped using it, Ibuprofen and Tylenol are safer and kids aren't chewing them like Pez!

They were so good. I never understood why Grandpa got them all the time.

I take baby aspirin to help my uterine lining. It says in big giant letters on the box and the bottle "not intended for children". I don't understand how MIL could have made that mistake. If your kid isn't showing any of the Rey's symptoms I wouldn't worry though. Just educate DH and mother in law.

Re: My MIL gave my son aspirin!

I think she tried to do the right thing, she did call. Maybe next time just tell her ahead of time where she can find the children's medications. I used to keep a index card in the container with the appropriate doses for each of my kids for my mom. My bff writes the dose in sharpie on each bottle. I remember taking chewable aspirin quite a bit as a kid, it's safe.
