Do you tuck in the blanket?

I'm wondering about when/how to introduce a blanket for our little one. I've read a lot of things saying 12 months, and I've also read to use 100% cotton for breathability, and to tuck it into the mattress bottom and only have it go halfway up their chest... So what do you recommend for introducing a blanket?

Do you really tuck it in like that? What size blankets do you start with (she does have a small "dear angel" lovey she is attached to)?

Baby is 10 months old, and is a very mobile little walker. She can climb part way up a ladder and pick up a grain of rice to eat... relatively coordinated all around. I'm planning on waiting at least a couple more months to introduce a blanket, but wanted to plan ahead. TIA

I don't tuck the blanket into the bed just loosely cover the baby up to the armpits

If she is mobile like that then she is fine. Just lay the blanket over her...she is gonna kick it off in a couple minutes anyways.

we don't tuck in the blanket either. Most of the time my kids kick it off anyways and we didn't start using blankets at 1 year old. It was much younger

Re: Do you tuck in the blanket?

we use blankets from birth (we co-sleep) and my kids always kicked them off from a very young age. Now, my 21 mo old burrows under the covers near the middle of the bed! I have never tucked, I know I cant stand that feeling, so I wouldn't do it to someone else.

Re: Do you tuck in the blanket?

During the winter when DD was 5-8 months old, sometimes we'd go into her room after she was asleep and put a blanket over her (below armpits). She hasn't slept with a blanket since, though, because she is a such a squirmer that it wouldn't stay on her for more than a few seconds. We've used blanket sleepers and sleep sacks instead.

Because I know my daughter would just kick it off, we use sleep sacks.

Re: Do you tuck in the blanket?

I used sleep sacks on my daughter until she was about 2 1/2. In the winter I put fleece pjs under a fleece sack. In the summer my daughter wore a long sleeved t shirt under a cotton sack. I didn't want to worry about the blankets coming off.

We use crocheted blankets. DS had one before a year old, he particularly liked to roll and wrap his head in it, but because it was loose stitching(not sure if that's what you'd call it on a crocheted blanket) it was super breathable and we let him be! LOL

Unfortunately those are very risky, especially the loose weave ones.
