I got stainless steel sets of appetizer spoons and forks for my DS (he was 8 mo when he started food).

Also: silicone, wood utensils (from amazon, not sure of the brand) and the IKEA plastic ones are safe plastic (and really cheap).

Even though I have the wood, silicone and plastic, what worked best for us was the stainless steel small ones. But honestly, after a very short time (less than a month?) he was using regular size forks and spoons.

We got handed down some stainless pieces and honestly we all liked them best. They cleaned up well and DS liked them. I also like the stainless IKEA set, but for a older child, I think, because of the size.

I asked this in a different thread but didn't get much response... Is it okay for baby's gums to use regular stainless utensils?
