Dermoid Cyst experience?

Anyone have or have kids who have had/have a dermoid cyst? If so, did it cause any problems? Did you have it removed? What age?

My 10 year old DD has a small one on her left eyebrow. She was referred to a specialist. She has not been to the appointment yet. My 3 month old also has one. At least I believe it is one, but it has not been diagnosed yet. I am taking her into the doc this week, because her last apt I forgot to ask about it because I was so concerned with her reflux Anyway, hers is large and it's making me worry. Here is a pic:

It seems to be getting bigger, or maybe it's my imagination. IDK.

Ok here's some more pics. In January:

At birth in November:

Definitely appears bigger to me.

Re: Dermoid Cyst experience?

An old friend of mine had a daughter with one, it was between her eyebrows. It was noticeable. Around the age of two I believe she had it removed and looks completely normal now. I don't even recall seeing scarring around age of 4 when I saw her last. Try not to worry too much! It can be taken care of easily if it comes down to that.

Re: Dermoid Cyst experience?

Thx. I need to stop googling. I keep reading they can lead to infection and be connected to other tissue making removal more difficult and put pressure on their eyes and blah blah..must stop googling!

Yes! My 7 year old son had one. It didn't appear until he was 12 months old, but the doc said he was born with it. We left it alone and by 15 months old it was definitely bigger. We were given the option to leave it alone some more or surgically remove it. The doc said that it would have to be removed eventually, he was guessing within 3-4 years. We opted for surgery when he was 20 months old. It was a quick one and he's fine. The doc made the incision on an eyelid crease so you can't see the scar.

If you type "My baby has a Dermoid Cyst - November 2008 Birth Club" into Google, you'll find a lengthy thread on another forum that may provide you with some comfort.

Yup. one of my DD's had one near her temple. It first appeared a few weeks after birth and got bigger and bigger until we finally had it removed at about 14 months. Quick and easy surgery. All she has is a little scar in her hairline that is not noticeable.

Re: Dermoid Cyst experience?

thanks! I will google that. I'm glad to know the surgery is quick and easy if it comes to that.
