Trying not to panic about bottle feeding
Okay, so we got a late start with trying bottle feeding. DD is almost 8 months old and we just tried bottle feeding for the first time today. Dh tried to give her a bottle and dd was NOT interested. She won't start daycare until she is almost a year, so in some ways it isn't a really big deal. But dd isn't doing great with food either. Mostly she ends up gagging And throwing up (on things like mashed sweet potato' or avocado), so I don't have high hopes for her to be mostly relying on solids by then. Is there a chance that a sippy cup would be more successful at this age, and we should just skip the bottle? Or is that part irrelevant, and we just need to try a few more times?
Thanks, mamas |

Re: Trying not to panic about bottle feeding
Yes! I'd go to a straw cup for sure! Both my kids were on straw cups with no bottles by 10 months. Especially if she isn't going to day care for a few more months.

Straw cups for sure...since you're starting later, you can avoid the hassle of bottles and sippys and weaning from them
I read somewhere that straw sucking uses the same muscles as bf'ing, so kids find it easier/don't get nipple confusionSent from my iPhone using DS Forum |

Re: Trying not to panic about bottle feeding
We never used bottles with DS. He went straight to a cup, sippy cup and then straw cup. He flat out rejected bottles.
I want to try a bottle with DD soon, but I'm not in a hurry.

Skip bottles either try sippees or better yet a cup.
DS refused to take a bottle ever since we introduced them at 6 weeks. We tried every kind and he hated them all (didn't matter who tried or when they tried) and absolutely refused each one. Then I tried sippees at 4 months and found the tommee tippee closer to nature 4+ month sippees and was thrilled when he figured out how to drank from it. He got the hang of it and preferred it to traditional sippees we tried (he couldn't figure them out). Now he has figured out how to drink out of them but when gets BM when I'm at work, it's from his tommee tippees. You could also try the Doidy cups. DS learned how to drank out of his at 4mo. So he really only drinks from it or his tommee tippees. Sent from my iPhone. I know how to spell, but it does not. |
