Re: Waiting in Line at a Store(Leaving a Line) & Parking Spaces

If I see a new line opening up, I will often ask the person ahead of me if they want to go first. Common courtesy. Whoever has been waiting the longest gets that spot. Honestly? It's rude to jump in ahead of that person (IMO).

I worked in retail and we were always told that when we open up our register to take the next person (or next few, depending on the line size) waiting in the line that had already formed since they had been waiting the longest out of any one in line (other than the customer getting rung out), NOT the next person that walks up and decides its time to check out. This is pretty standard practice and not rude in the slightest.

In other words, he had already spent time waiting in line, you had to wait your turn too

I agree with this.

No, the cashier was relieving him of standing in the line any longer. It's common practice to have the next person in line come to a newly opened line.

You said the cashier called him over, so she asked him to leave the line. In my store, you would have been helped after him and you were in the wrong. You would have been reminded that he was called over.

Where I worked, if we thought there might be a misunderstanding like yours because we were busy, we actually escorted the customers who had been waiting to our registers as we opened them.

Nope, not rude at all. And standard practice. He waited just like you did, and just as long as you did. I worked in retail for years, and this is normal, in the "REAL WORLD."

My opinion is that those issues, while often frustrating, aren't really that impoortant together too bent out of shape about. Although, I don't ever recall anyone asking me if they can cut. Maybe I just have a "don't ask" face?
You are lucky. Do you shop at Walmart or any place that has long lines? If you don't, that's probably why or you just got lucky. At the Walmart this happened at(4 of those 5 times), a Walgreens is RIGHT NEXT DOOR even. It's pathetic that they can't just go there if they are in a hurry, seriously.

After the word "inconsiderate" in the last paragraph.

NOPE, that's not how the it works. It's not common courtesy. It's called what's being fair or not. NO ONE MADE HIM LEAVE THE LINE.

I didn't jump ahead of him, I made it there before him.

Yeah. I live in an extremely heavily populated area. I've waited in my fair share of long lines.
