Cleared for my homebirth!

I don't know if its this way in all states, but in my state you have to pass a 36 week risk assessment to be cleared for homebirth. I had mine yesterday and everything is good to go! Baby head down, blood pressure/urine good, no GD etc... If I went into labor right now I could have my homebirth. Except of course my midwife is on vacation and I would really rather not have to use her back up.

Oh of course when I called our health dept to go pick up my birth kit, they were all out. so Im not sure what is going to happen there.

Exciting! Did the Health Dept say when they will have more, or is there another place you can purchase from? I dont know a whole lot about Homebirth...

Me neither! I am flying pretty blind on this. They said every health department in the area is out so the nurse practitioner is trying to get prescriptions written for the meds in the birth kit. Vitamin K etc and they are going to try to gather the other stuff independently. THey were supposed to call me back today but of course, haven't done that yet either. I will probably have to call and harass them tomorrow. I have no idea what is supposed to be in the birth kit from them. I have all my supplies gathered that the mw told me to get, just not the health department birth kit.

I wasn't able to do a homebirth for my second birth either. I had a pretty good CNM in a hospital which made me REALLY want a midwife and a homebirth the third time around.

That is cool that you have access to a birth center. There are no birth centers within hundreds of miles here. So, its either a hospital with a 35.5 % C/S rate, or a homebirth. We need more choices in birth!
