So glad we figured it out! I had a great routine down till we moved to Colorado and had to deal with hard water. I missed their big fluffy butts
Thanks again momma!

Re: For the momas with buildup/stink/ammonia/new 2 CD momas/or washing trouble.
I have a fl and have found that the only way they get clean is if I do a extra long wash and add water through the dispenser. I have trouble with rinsing and would like to try the liquid tide to see if this helps. Thanks for the info! I am new to CD and trying to figure it all out, and have been struggling with ammonia from about week 3.

Aw,
sweetie!! If the liquid tide doesn't help, I'd be happy to help figure out what's going on. I really hope it does the trick!

Sarah don't you think that forcing water into your machine is a bad thing? It would be better to do two full cycles. Everyone who has had problems IRL and has asked Mu advice I tell them to do two full cycles, one short and one long (normal then sanitary/whitest of whites) and add a splash of bleach. Works everytime.

Re: For the momas with buildup/stink/ammonia/new 2 CD momas/or washing trouble.
I am actually against adding water to the machine through the drawar, yes. I had a long "cloth" talk with our new machine specialist and he said it will throw the weight of the machine off. it measures how much it adds and self balances that way. Persionally, I think a warm or hot prewash and then a long HOT sanitary should be doing the job. If it's not, it's ususlly because of the troubleshooting items I listed in the beginning. Like for example: not warm enough water, too much/little detergent, not a good detergent, bacteria/ammonia/detergent building up over time from not getting rinsed out well enough, leaveing dipes in a closed pail too long, overloading the machine, or you have a hard/soft water issue. SOOOOOO many things go into it. it's hard to make a good recomendation for a routine without knowing all the details. Washing should be simple, really should. There is allways an issue causeing the problem, if not more than one. My best advice is try to keep it simple. But you are correct in that we shouldn't be adding more water to the machine. But, so many momas do it.
And, even swear by it.

I have an old school TL'er, but I've heard some mamas put a soaking wet towel in their fl'er to kinda trick the machine into adding more water. Don't know if you've said that before, but I thought I would add.

Re: For the momas with buildup/stink/ammonia/new 2 CD momas/or washing trouble.
I havn't mentioned it. Thanks for bringing that up.
The 2 fl'ers I have had have used enough water that if I kept to a simple but effective routine, washed well. I bet there are some super saver models that really skimp on the water though. Water is essential for flushing out the excess urine and feces. It truely is key. That's why I whole heartidly suggest a hot or warm prewashh. Then your dipes arn't washing in a tiny amnt of filthy water. Much of it has already been flushed out and the detergent can do a better job. And i'll go ahead and say it again, bodily fluids are more soluable at warmer temps.
