Re: what kind of worries do you have when it comes to your children

I'm not a worrier. If my kid ate a moth I'd try to go in after it but I wouldn't panic. I do worry that he will be stupid and it will be my fault for not reading to him enough or not doing enough enrichment activities. Actually it's less worry and more guilt. Hmm. I should probably go look at that notimeforflashcards website while he's napping instead of goofing off with you ladies.

I worry about accidents. My biggest fear is losing him.

omg me too! I've worried about house fires since I was a little kid. I have smoke detectors in every single room of our house and a fire extinguisher beside my bed!

I worry about everything, all of the time. Well, when it comes to my children.

I guess my biggest worry is losing any of them, but second biggest worry is what they might encounter out there in the world. There are bullies everywhere - irl and on the Internet - and cruel people who really don't give a crap about you. I was bullied a lot in school and at home so maybe that has a big influence on how much I worry about my kids being bullied for any reason.

Re: what kind of worries do you have when it comes to your children

I think worrying is much more normal than not worrying!

The only thing I really worry about is that something will happen to me during the night and the kids will be all alone. DH is in the military and is gone pretty much all the time, so I worry a lot about fire, break ins, me having a heart attack, etc...and the kids being left by themselves until someone finds me.

I have been teaching DD1 (4.5 years) about 911, how to use the phone, how to dial, etc. Also, when DH is gone, I have an agreement with my mom that I will email her every morning, and if she doesn't hear from me, assume something is wrong. The only problem is that she lives 1.5 hours away, and I don't really have anyone nearby I could count on.

So yeah...that sounds really morbid when I write it out like that!

I have 3 biggest fears...
1- That my children will lose me.
2- That I will lose my children.
3- CHOKING
I have a huge fear of my children choking! I know the heimlic and have had to use it before. But its still a gigantic, overwhelming fear of mine. I don't let hard candys near my children. I watch them like hawks with popcorn and other choking hazard foods. I get ocd when a balloon pops or other small toy parts. My oldest son just choked on a twizzler 4 days ago. He came to me mouthing that he couldn't breath. I did the heimlic and it came up. He said I almost made him puke and then went back to playing his ds. *I* had to talk myself down from a panic attack and didn't stop shaking for nearly an hour.

Other not as overwhelming fears are car accidents, drowning, fire in the night, vomit, and them getting lost. Can you tell I have anxiety disorder. lol

Re: what kind of worries do you have when it comes to your children

I'm not a worrier, but I over worry that someone will take my kids in public, like in large crowds. I'm probably too paranoid about that.

And I worry that dd1 will be picked on for her twitch that makes it hard for her to eat/drink/write. I know kids will be cruel to her and I worry what it will do to her self esteem.

Okay, I am terrified of my kids being molested. Many of my friends growing up were sexually abused... about 50% of the girls on my block in fact. My mom was sexually abused and she passed on a serious distrust of men, but in doing so I think she protected me. I probably knew about way too many bad things at a young age, but I also managed to deflect at least one pervert when another 3rd grader might not have realized something was amiss... for the best I guess. Still sad.
I will not have a male pediatrician, and will probably be crazy paranoid about coaches, teachers, etc. I'm also not going to use words like "privates" but instead will teach my kids the correct terms in case, heaven forbid, they ever need to tell me or another person about something. I don't want any confusion. I'm also going to teach him it's okay to say NO to an adult and to leave a situation if someone is making him afraid.

Re: what kind of worries do you have when it comes to your children

I am definitely a worrier, but way moreso with DS than DD because of his medical issues. I feel like I'm constantly checking him thinking, "Is that right? Should he be doing that? Is he eating enough?" I think it is absolutely normal, I would be worried about a mom who ISN'T worried about her kids in some shape or form!

Also, I have a fear of them being abducted or harmed in some way. Too much Law & Order: SVU.
