Re: 3 days of 104 plus fever...

For us roseola was her whole body covered in tiny red bumps. The doctor described it was feeling 'prickly'. It was raised. It almost looked like it could have been a heat rash.

eta: I think it is supposed to start on the back, but we first noticed it on her bunny and front of her diaper area.

His is starting in the diaper area up one side of his trunk and arm pits. Little round points but still really faint. They just started appearing.

Mama

My DD runs fevers like that every time she is sick (colds and all). It's gotten to the point that I just don't freak out over 105 temps anymore. When she's really sick, one med alone won't bring the temp down below 104, so when that happens, her doc has us keep her on both meds all the time, giving tylenol every 4 hrs and motrin every 6 (we keep a "med journal" to make sure that she doesn't get overdosed). It sucks!

(OTOH, my DS almost never runs a fever over 102.5, even when really sick)

I hope your LO feels better soon and that the rash is the beginning of the end of the illness. GL!

My dd's was a darker red .... kinda a different color. It wasn't bright red but not a purple. Might depend on your child's skin color. Where has the rash started?

That's how our dd's started too and was raised. We have been through Roseola and Erythema Mutiforme (that's another story but also full body and very painful). Sigh ....

thank goodness his fever broke. Sounds like it could be roseola. I think ours with ds3 were kinda blotchy, but can't remember for sure?

Re: 3 days of 104 plus fever...

If the fever is not gone, I would push for a blood panel depending on the rash appearance/location. My son had never had a fever (so I knew he wasn't a fever runner by nature) and at 17 month he ran a 104-105 fever for several days. It was Kawasaki's disease. It started with a fever and went to fever with rash and raspberry tongue. It is the time frame that the ped. specialist told us kawasaki's is most prevalant (Jan-March).

Haha -- Don't know how I managed to type bunny instead of tummy.

I did give DD benadryl (before nap and before bed) because she was absolutely miserable the whole time she had the rash. It did help a little, but she still didn't feel good.
