My son REALLY loved Captain Underpants. It completely rejuvenated his love of reading. I realize that they are not all that scholarly but it was great to see him be so motivated by a book and hear him cracking up at the ridiculous jokes. He hasn't really taken to any other Dav Pilkey books.

He does enjoy not as obnoxious books too. He is making his way through the treehouse series and liked flat stanley. We've read Harry Potter together and he likes Star Wars. We already did the Stink books--I really liked those

Some I have read that are supposed to be funny are
Knights at the lunch table
The butt books by Andy Griffiths
Magic Pickle
Roscoe Riley Rules
Martin Bridge

Does anyone have reviews about these? Any other ideas?

I dont know what about Fudge ? Mouse and the motorcycle, we also enjoyed my fathers dragon series..

how old is your son?

Magic Pickle is awesome! Also try the Bone series by Jeff Smith.

I am not sure how much reading you are looking for-- ie how many words per page, but my two oldest kids (6 and 8) adore and share the Bad Kitty books. They are silly and cartoony in style, but they will giggle themselves silly on the couch and read together. There aren't many, though-- maybe 5 or so that I have seen at the libraries. They are fast reads, though, so not a lot of bang for your buck.

I am not fami.iar with the ones you listed, but my son loves the Geronimo Stilton books. He also enjoys getting the Scooby Doo books. He really liked Mouse and the Motorcycle, as well.

My son loves comic strips -- Garfield, Calvin and Hobbes, and Peanuts are his favorites.

Well, the Marvin Redpost "Why Pick on me" is hilarious. It's about a third-ish grade boy who was accused of picking his nose, and nobody will touch him.

But, it's funny. I read it to my daughter when she was little, and even I couldn't wait to read the next chapter.

We came across this book in a first-grade class book cart. It is disgusting and far from funny. I don't see the point in introducing it to our schools.

The above review from a parent is the exact reason a kid would like this book.
