Seriously?

Today the nurse at my appointment asked me whether I plan to breast feed or formula feed. I told her I plan to breast feed, she then hands me a huge bag filled with samples and coupons and all kinds of junk from Similac. Then tells me "Just in case you can't."

Gee, thanks.

Yeah I've gotten those too. I just say thanks and throw it on my closet for the off chance that I may truely need them.

Re: Seriously?

Nice! I never got anything at my OB's office but after I had my son I got a ton of stuff at the hospital and in the mail. I can't even begin to imagine how much formula companies spend on free samples and giveaways. I think it wld be nice if they had "gifts" for breast feeding moms that included things OTHER then formula coupons and samples. Like breast pad samples, nipple cream samples, some pamphlets on breast feeding and contact info for the local LLL, maybe a cute beaded nursing bracelet, coupons for nursing supplies (pads, nipple cream, pumps and pump supplies, breastfeeding friendly bottles) just something other then formula and formula coupons. I did get a cooler with a ice pack from one formula company which was nice.

I got a breastfeeding gift bag when I had DD2 and DS. Some hospitals do it, don't lose hope.

I got a bag of "breastfeeding supplies" at the hospital I delivered at. It had a cooler bag, ice packs, nursing pads, lanolin and a pamphlet with tons of breastfeeding info. It was nice I also got all of the formula bags too and I am keeping all of that formula. I gave it all away with DD1 and ended up needing it, so this time around we will be saving it in case we need it again! It's nice to not need to buy it and just have it around on the off chance we do need it.
