Re: Cost of Kindergarten?

My daughter will continue at the Montessori school she has attended for 2 years. The tuition for K is $5500, from 8a to 2p. You can get full time care if you need it. So far the school goes through the 2nd grade and she will stay there until then.

DS1 attends a private SDA school right now (preK), and we'll be keeping him there. It costs $4450/yr for preK-8, and I don't know much it is for grades 9-12.

We live on a budget, but this is one thing that's not negotiable for us. The public schools in our area are not good, and homeschooling is an option. I know my limits, and I would not make a good teacher .

The K at DS school (he's currently in preschool) is $5200/year. It's a private Christian school, we're in so. Cal.

Re: Cost of Kindergarten?

Our school district in our town (where I would not send my kids) has full day kindergarden, but the town over where I would considering sending my kids only has half day and you have to pay for full day kindergarden. It's $3,500. The Catholic schools here range from $3,500 and up. The one I'm looking at for my kids is about $4,000 tuition plus books, uniforms, etc.

4K will cost us $415/month this coming year, plus the registration fee and all the other incidentals, lunch, and heaven's knows what else. It's a 9 month program.

Re: Cost of Kindergarten?

Around us:
Montessori Kinder: $10000
Private, non-religious: $9500
Private, religious: $6000-9000 (to get the lowest rate, you must be a member of that faith, so for us the range is $7500-9000)
Public charter (half or full days): FREE (but in the wrong direction)
Public, assigned enrollment area (half-days): FREE

None of these include before/after school care.

My DD is also already reading, writing, adding, and subtracting. We're enrolling in our assigned enrollment area's public Kinder. It's a great school and about 30% of the kids will come in to Kinder at or near my DD's level. There is also a before and after school program run by the YMCA on the school grounds (no transportation required) that only costs $100/wk (with optional daycamps at the YMCA facility when school is not in session). I looked at the Charters, but wasn't impressed enough to commute in the wrong direction AND find a childcare that could pick DD up next year.

WOW!! This is really making me look at the private distant learning school that I want to put my son in in a new light! It is only $2500 a year!

I don't know how you afford it!

Re: Cost of Kindergarten?

We will be paying if we can't get into the public school (age issue). Here it is anywhere from $8,000-30,000 depending on how/where. Kids at that age are at their prime learning and we'll do what we need to to support it. I figure worst case we will do private for k and/or 1st grade and go to public as they don't test in and have all the requirements in 2nd grade.
